| Integrating Europe's East: the Challenge of Ukraine |

The Project was carried out from December 2010 till June 2011 with the support of the German Marshall Fund. Its primary focus was on determining the ways to advance the policy of helping and integrating Ukraine into European institutions.
The Working Group comprised the Ukrainian leading experts in the field of European integration: Ihor Burakivsky, Director of the Institute of International Economic Studies, Valeriy Chaliy, deputy Director-General of the Rasumkov Center, Olexiy Haran, Professor at the Kyiv Mohyla Academy, Mykola Kapitonenko, Director of the Center for International Studies, Volodymyr Manjola, Head of the Chair of International Relations at the Kyiv Institute of International Relations, Olexandre Sushko, Director of the Institute of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation and Olexander Todiychuk, President of the Kyiv Energy Club. Some meetings of the Group were joined by Oleh Rybachuk, Head of the Civil Society Advisory Council with the Ukraine-EU cooperation Council and Olexander Shnyrkov, Deputy Director of the Kyiv Institute of International Relations. Group’s activities were organized by Ambassador (ret.) Oleh Shamshur, GMF non-resident Fellow.
The Project resulted in a fruitful discussion of Ukrainian-EU relations regarding preparation and negotiation of the Association Agreement and a Comprehensive Free Trade Zone Agreement. It involved both Ukrainian and European experts and was wrapped-up at the round table in Brussels, organized by CIRS in May. Monthly updates and analytical papers have been delivered to GMF.
